Sketching 12/13/12

This set of sketches features a couple different subjects. While I still have a ways to go, I feel that this is an improvement over my last sketching post and I can feel myself starting to loosen up. The things I'm going to focus on are expanding my form vocabulary and improving my line control, which should allow me to add in finer details and have a cleaner overall look.

I might do one or two more posts, but I'm going to take a break from posting until the new year. This will give me a chance to revamp the site a bit and decide what currently is and isn't working and if anything needs to be adjusted.

Creative Inspiration Liquid Edition

This week's inspiration post is a little more out there, but hopefully you will still enjoy it. It features some of the creative things you can do with water, inks and a camera.

This first set features drops of ink suspended in water.

This next one features flowing water photographed at just the right time to make an amazing photograph.

And finally ferrofluids are an otherworldly magnetic liquid that gains a spikey look when exposed to a magnetic field and reverts to a black goo when not.

Creative Inspiration Video Game Art Style Edition

With MoMA adding 14 video games to their collection recently, I thought why not make this week's inspiration post about video games? Below are a series of game trailers for a few of the games I have played over the past couple of years that have impressed me with their visual style. I have tried to stick to independently developed games because they can sometimes slip under the radar compared to the big budget titles, and the lower budgets mean they often need to be more creative with their visuals. Some of these games are a couple years old, but I figured enough of you might not be familiar with them to make them worth including. Hope you enjoy!

Sketching Post 11/28/2012

As promised here are some sketches I drew of projectors in my spare time over the last 2 weeks. It's been awhile since I've sketched and I'm not too familiar with Sketchbook Pro yet, which is what I used for these sketches, but it felt good to get back into sketching just for the fun of it. While I'm a ways off from being content with the level of my sketching skills, I think this is a good start and with the Thanksgiving holiday behind me I will ramp up my sketching even more. I look forward to seeing my improvement in the next couple months as I continue this series.

I am making a slight change to the format of this series. I will still post sketches every other week, but I am removing the prompt of what to draw meaning that you can sketch whatever you feel like and submit it for the possibility of being featured. It will also allow more variety per post and not remove the surprise of what I'll be posting. So Tune back in two weeks and see what I post next time.

Creative Inspiration Automotive Sketching Edition

As I'm practicing my sketching I'm looking at sketches from other designers and artists to see if there is anything I can apply to my own drawings. So this week features one of the things that designers like to sketch the most, cars. Here are some nice dynamic automotive sketches I've found around the web.
